Siragusa & Novak Honored as Landmark Conference Softball Athlete & Pitcher of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior outfielder Julie Siragusa and junior pitcher Josie Novak have been honored as the Landmark Conference Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.

The duo helped the No. 17 ranked Greyhounds to a 2-0 start to the season at the Spring Games being played at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida as Moravian posted a 4-3 win over SUNY Oneonta and a 10-0 victory over Misericordia University.

Siragusa hit .571 in the two games with four hits in seven at-bats to go with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs. She had a .625 on-base percentage with a walk in her plate appearance, and Siragusa had a .857 slugging percentage.

"Julie started the season right where she left off, getting on base and hitting the ball into the gaps for doubles," stated Head Coach John Byrne. "Julie is one of the senior leaders on our squad, and we'll be looking for her to contribute at a high level this spring."

Novak opened the season with a one-hit shutout in the victory over Misericordia, and she struck out nine batters in the game to go with a pair of walks.

"Josie looked in midseason form in her first appearance of the season, and really had command of her pitches," Byrne said.

The Greyhounds, who are now 4-0 on the season, are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 8 with two more games at the Spring Games with contests against Alvernia University at 11:30 a.m. and the University of Mount Union at 2:00 p.m.
