Novak Honored as ECAC Division III Metro Softball Pitcher of the Week

DANBURY, Conn. --- Moravian College junior Josie Novak has been honored as the ECAC Division III Metro Softball Pitcher of the Week for her performance last week.

Novak helped the No. 8 Greyhounds post six shutouts last week in a 6-0 week as the Blue and Grey clinched the program's 24th consecutive postseason appearance. Novak posted a 3-0 mark during the week and increased her season total nine shutouts after three more last week. She gave up a total of seven hits and two walks while striking out 24 batters in just 19 innings of action.

Novak, who earned her third straight and fourth overall Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday, had her sixth one-hit shutout of the season to go with two walks and 11 strikeouts in a 5-0 win at DeSales University last Tuesday. She then scattered four hits and added seven strikeouts in a 4-0 victory versus Muhlenberg College before allowing just two hits to go with six strikeouts in an 8-0, five-inning win over Drew University.

"Josie continued her strong season in the circle last week and is keeping the opposing batters off balance with an excellent mix of pitches," noted Head Coach John Byrne. "While she has been strong all season and helped us post 11 shutouts in her 14 starts, it was nice to see us get some offense for her and the rest of the pitching staff last week."

Moravian, which is now 28-2, is slated to return to action on Thursday, April 20 in a non-conference doubleheader at Eastern University beginning at 3:00 p.m.
