Greyhounds Set to Host 16th Steel Club Classic on December 30-31

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team will be hosting the 16th Steel Club Classic in Johnston Hall on December 30-31. Host Moravian will play Delaware Valley University in Sunday's second game beginning at 2:00 p.m. Cabrini University and SUNY New Paltz will battle in the other first round game at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The consolation game is slated for 11:00 a.m. on Monday and the championship contest will start at 1:00 p.m. Delaware Valley is in the tournament for the fifth time while Cabrini and SUNY New Paltz are making their first appearance. The tournament was held for 13 consecutive years before taking two years off after a change in the Landmark Conference schedule. The tournament resumed in December 2016.

Moravian headed to its 15-day holiday break with a record of 7-3 and a 1-0 slate in Landmark Conference action. Greyhounds' Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk is in her 32nd season with the Greyhounds and is bringing a career record of 586-278 into the tournament. The Hounds will meet the Aggies for the 21st time but it's the first game since 2010, and Moravian leads the series 13-7. The Blue and Grey have faced Cabrini four times with a 2-2 mark and have never played SUNY New Paltz.

Junior guard Maddie Capuano leads the Greyhounds in scoring at 21.6 points per game to go along with 37 rebounds, 26 three-pointers, 29 assists and 13 steals. Junior forward Nadine Ewald in netting 14.2 points per contest and leads the squad with 9.2 rebounds per outing and 13 blocked shots to go with 26 assists and nine steals while junior guard Karlie Brogan has averages of 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest to go with 19 assists, 18 three-pointers and 18 steals.

Sophomore guard Jennifer McClave is contributing 5.4 points per game to go with 35 rebounds, 26 assists and 12 steals while senior guard/forward Emily Walls is adding 4.6 points per game with 22 rebounds, 11 assists, eight steals and five three-pointers. Senior forward Ariana Caiati has 46 rebounds, 26 points, five blocked shots and four assists while senior guard Tyis Mullen has added 14 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and six steals. Senior guard/forward Caitlin Flanagan has contributed 18 rebounds and 11 points while sophomore forward Jordan Beneducci has 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. 

Senior guard Brooke Santy has dished out 11 assists to go with nine rebounds and five points while freshman guard Alix Buskirk has seven points and four boards. Sophomore forward Raquel Lopez de Boer has five points while freshman guard Hannah Fenstermacher has three points. Freshman guard Linnaea Leister has contributed four rebounds and a point while freshman guard Kayla Yoegel has four rebounds and sophomore guard Sarah Donati has two boards.

Cabrini University located in Radnor, Pennsylvania rode into the holiday break with a 5-6 record and playing in a tournament in Las Vegas on December 19-20. The Cavaliers compete in the Atlantic East Conference, which is in its first year, and are 1-0 in conference action this season. Cabrini is headed by Kate Pearson, who is in her 10th season at the helm.

Senior guard/forward Nomi Washington leads the Cavaliers in scoring at 14.8 points per game to go with an average of 6.7 rebounds per contest, 48 steals, 19 assists and seven three-pointers. Sophomore forward Kate Lannon is netting 12.5 points per outing and leads Cabrini at 7.1 rebounds per game to go with 19 assists, 21 steals and 15 three-pointers while sophomore guard/forward Lexi Edwards is scoring 11.1 points per outing to go with 28 rebounds, 13 steals, eight three-pointers and five blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Ashley Tutzauer is contributing 8.5 points per game with 24 rebounds, 16 three-pointers, 12 assists and 11 steals while junior forward Meghan Matthews is netting 7.5 points per outing with 20 rebounds, 13 assists and 12 steals. Junior guard Cassidy Gallagher has 50 points, 33 rebounds, 23 assists, 14 steals and eight three-pointers for the Cavaliers while senior forward Gaby Jones and sophomore forward Brianna Blair have each scored 26 points with Jones adding 38 rebounds, 13 assists, 12 steals and a team-high nine blocked shots while Blair has 24 rebounds.

Delaware Valley University from Doylestown, Pennsylvania took a 5-4 record into the holiday break after playing on December 20. The Aggies compete in the MAC Freedom Conference and are 1-1 in conference play in 2018-19. Delaware Valley is led by Laura Hogan, who is in her 23rd season at her alma mater.

Junior guard Ashley Smink leads the Aggies in scoring at 15.6 points per game to go with 26 rebounds, 24 assists, 17 three-pointers and nine steals. Junior guard Dom Moser is second on the squad on the boards with 8.2 rebounds per contest to go along with 14.1 points per outing, 37 assists, 23 steals and 15 three-pointers while senior guard/forward Danielle Skedzielewski is netting 12.9 points per game to go with 5.7 rebounds per contest, 21 assists, 15 three-pointer, 10 steals and seven blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Lauren Moretti is contributing 7.4 points per outing with 25 rebounds, 16 steals, 11 three-pointers and 10 assists while freshman forward Emily Kutskel is netting 6.0 points per game with a team-high 8.3 rebounds per contest, 10 blocked shots, seven assists and five steals. Senior center Amber Grohowski and junior guard Sarah Wills have each scored 41 points with Grohowski adding 35 rebounds and three assists and Wills contributing 27 rebounds, eight three-pointers and seven assists.

SUNY New Paltz from New Paltz, New York entered the holiday break with a 4-3 record. The Hawks compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference and are 2-1 in conference play this winter. SUNY New Paltz is coached by Jamie Seward, who is in his 13th season.

Senior guard Rachel Simon leads the Hawks in scoring at 19.6 points per game with go with an average of 4.7 rebounds per contest, 26 three-pointers, 16 assists and 11 steals. Senior guard Lindsay Bettke has averages of 14.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing to go along with 28 assists, 20 three-pointers and six steals while junior guard Marion Dietz is scoring 10.1 points per game with 25 rebounds, 15 assists, nine three-pointers, eight steals and seven blocked shots.

Senior guard Taylor Howell is contributing 8.9 points per outing with 21 assists, 21 rebounds, 15 steals and 12 three-pointers while junior forward Paige Niemeyer has a team-high 5.0 rebound per game average to go with 8.5 points per contest, 10 assists, seven steals and five three-pointers. Sophomore guard/forward Nicole Ziogas has added 33 rebounds, 30 points, five assists, six steals, four blocked shots and three three-pointers while junior forward Madison Van Pelt has 24 rebounds, 23 points, four steals, three assists and a pair of blocked shots. Junior forward Philesha Teape has added 31 rebounds, 15 points, five steals and four assists.
