SCRANTON, Pa. --- Junior guard Maddie Capuano became the 27th women's basketball player in Moravian College history to reach 1,000 career points but the Greyhounds suffered their first Landmark Conference loss of the season, falling to host No. 3 The University of Scranton, 72-45, Wednesday evening.

The Hounds are now 10-4 overall and 2-1 in Landmark Conference action this winter. Capuano, who hit the milestone with a three-pointer at the 2:37 mark of the third quarter, finished with 13 points to go with two assists and two rebounds. Junior forward Nadine Ewald led Moravian with 16 points to go with nine rebounds and a pair of assists while junior guard Karlie Brogan had 11 rebounds to go with four points and three assists.

Senior guard/forward Emily Walls contributed five points, two board and two assists for the Blue and Grey while sophomore guard Jennifer McClave, junior guard Brooke Santy and senior forward Ariana Caiati all had two points with Caiati pulling down five rebounds. Freshman guard Linnaea Leister added one point for Moravian.

The Greyhounds struggled shooting the ball, making just 14-of-59 field goal attempts, 4-of-12 three-pointers and 13-of-16 free throws in the contest. Moravian did have a 13-8 edge on the offensive boards.

Neither team scored in the first two and a half minutes of the game and the Greyhounds wouldn't get onto the scoreboard until Capuano hit two free throws at the 6:16 mark to cut the score to 4-2. However, the Royals would lead 17-7 after 10 minutes of action.

Ewald hit back-to-back shots in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 19-11 but Scranton led 28-15 at the intermission. When Capuano hit her milestone, the Blue and Grey trailed 44-30. Early in the fourth quarter, Capuano hit back-to-back three-pointers to pull the score to 54-40 before Scranton pulled away again.

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 12 when Moravian returns to Johnston Hall to host Juniata College in a Landmark Conference game tipping off at 2:00 p.m.
