Women's Soccer Headed to University of Scranton for Landmark Conference Semifinals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team is seeded fourth in the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament, and will travel to The University of Scranton on Wednesday, November 2nd at 7:00 p.m. for the match.

The Greyhounds are 6-10-2 overall with a 2-3-1 mark in conference play. This is Moravian's ninth postseason appearance and its fifth consecutive berth. The Royals 11-3-3 and 6-0 in conference play this season. Scranton defeated the Greyhounds 3-0 on October 19th.

Wednesday's other semifinal match puts three seed Susquehanna University travels to second seed The Catholic University of America. The winners will meet on Saturday, November 5th at the highest remaining seed for the conference championship and an automatic berth to the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament.

Greyhounds' second year head coach Bienne Smith has led the Moravian back-to-back postseason berths in her first two campaigns.

Senior forward Arielle Caldas (Cherry Hills, NJ/Cherry Hill West), pictured right, leads the Greyhounds in points with 11 (four goals, three assists). Junior defender Eileen Black (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) leads the team in goals with four, and Black also had a game-winning goal versus Goucher College back on October 22nd.

Senior midfielder Jenna Stickle (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), pictured left, is tied for sixth in the conference with four assists to go with her two goals, including a clutch game-winning goal in the final minutes of the game versus Wittenberg University on September 3rd on a penalty kick.

Sophomore goalie Genevieve Chaleff (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) leads the conference in saves with 67 this season. She has a 2.06 goals against average and .728 save percentage with one shutout. Junior goalie Tori Korona (Easton, PA/Easton) has come on as of late due to an injury to Chaleff. Korona has a 1.85 goals against average in five starts with one shutout.

Freshmen forward's Quanie Lightner (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley) and Kayla Pagnani (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown Regional) each have two goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Tara Alberse (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) also has two goals this fall.

Sophomore midfielder Taylor DiSora (Easton, PA/Easton) has tallied one goal and one assist. Senior defender Diana Feldman (York, PA/Central York) and classmate midfielder Kristin Popovice (Roseto, PA/Bangor) each have one goal while freshman midfielder Kirsten Schall (Tinton Falls, NJ/Saint Rose) has one assist.

As a team the Greyhounds are ranked 1st in the conference in corner kicks with 92 and second in saves with 89.

The Royals are coached by Collen Murphy, who is in her fourth season, and she had led Scranton to the Landmark Conference Tournament for the fourth straight season.

Leading Scranton is sophomore forward Samantha Russo, who has seven goals and three assists while junior midfielder Sarah Gibbons has seven goals and one assist. Sophomore goalie Kelsey McAnelly has a 0.65 goals against average and a .711 save percentage. She also has seven shutouts to go with her 11-3-3 record.
