The Moravian College women's soccer team fell to The University of Scranton, 3-0, in the Landmark Conference semifinals Wednesday night.
The first half would be a defensive battle between the two teams as there were only three shots. The Royals would connect on one of them when junior forward Caila Zappala would send a pass to junior midfielder Sydney Parker in the 37th minute. Scranton would take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
The Royals would push their lead to 2-0 four minutes into the second half when sophomore midfielder Rebecca Hextall would score on a breakaway. Senior forward Arielle Caldas would have a chance to cut the lead in half at the 66th minute, but pushed the shot just wide. Classmate defender Diana Feldman, pictured, would push another shot just wide for the Greyhounds minutes later. Sophomore forward Samantha Russo would loft a shot just over junior goalie Tori Korona's head to give the Royals a 3-0 lead in the 76th minute. Moravian would battle the rest of the way, but to no avail.
Korona would make one save in the contest. Scranton's goalie sophomore Kelsy McAnelly wouldn't record a save in the shutout.
The Royals held the edge in shots 7-3, and corner kicks 1-0.
The Greyhounds finish their 2011 season 6-11-2 overall while the Royals will take on The Catholic University of America in the Conference Championship game on Saturday, November 5th.
