Women's Soccer Selected 5th in Landmark Conference Preseason Poll

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team has been picked fifth in the 2011 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.

Defending champion The University of Scranton and Drew University tied for the top spot in the poll with 56 points, marking the first time in the five-year history of the conference that two teams have tied for the top spot in a preseason poll. The Catholic University of America finished third in the preseason voting with 39 points while Juniata College collected 35 points to place fourth, just two points ahead of the Greyhounds. Rounding out the poll were Susquehanna University with 18 points in sixth place and Goucher College in seventh with 15 points.

Expectations are high again this season for the Moravian College women's soccer team with the 2011 squad returning 13 letterwinners and seven starters from last year's 5-13-2 team. Last season, despite five starters missing significant time due to injuries, the Greyhounds reached the Landmark Conference Tournament under head coach Brienne Smith in her debut season.

The Greyhounds' top returning scorer is junior defender Eileen Black (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville HS), pictured at top right, who earned a spot on the 2010 Landmark All-Conference First Team after scoring four goals and an assist for nine points. Senior Diana Feldmann (York, Pa./Central York HS), pictured at left, will anchor Moravian's defense after earning Landmark All-Conference Second Team honors last season and in 2008 and First Team accolades in 2009.

Moravian will open its 2011 season on Friday, September 2nd versus Swarthmore College at the Messiah College Tournament. Moravian's first home match is scheduled for Saturday, September 10th versus Wilkes University on the HUB Quad at 12:30 p.m. The Greyhounds begin the Landmark Conference regular season contest on Saturday, September 24th when the Greyhounds travel to Catholic.
