Hounds Drop Non-Conference Contest at Penn State Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team dropped a 14-6 decision at Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and Penn State Harrisburg added three runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth frame to build a 10-0 lead
  • The Greyhounds got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning as senior center fielder Matt Madigan reached on an error and moved to third on a passed ball before senior left fielder David Olsakowski ripped an RBI single to center field to chase Madigan home
  • The Nittany Lions answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-1
  • The Blue & Grey scored again in the top of the seventh as sophomore first baseman Sean Superka connected on a solo home run to left field, his first career homer
  • Penn State-Harrisburg added a run in the bottom of the seventh
  • Moravian pushed a run across the plate in the top of the eighth frame. Senior catcher Connor Wengryn was hit by a pitch with one out and eventually scampered home on a passed ball
  • The Nittany Lions scored twice in the bottom of the eighth for a 14-3 edge
  • The Hounds finished the scoring with three runs in the top of the ninth. Freshman shortstop Johnovan Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk before graduate student third baseman Justin Otero connected on a one-out, two-run homer to left center, his first career homer with the Blue & Grey. Madigan was hit by a pitch and scored from second on a stolen base with a throwing error for the final run

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had six hits in the game with Madigan going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs
  • Otero and Superka each had one home run with Otero driving in two runs
  • Olsakowski and Wengryn both had one hit with Olsakowski adding an RBI and Wengryn scoring once
  • Rodriguez crossed the plate once
  • Senior Aaron Flyte made the start on the mound and tossed three innings with six runs, five earned on seven hits and three walks. Senior Rony Minier pitched an inning with four runs on two hits and two walks to go with one strikeout while freshman Ryan Hoffman seeing two innings of work with a run on two hits and two walks to go with a pair of strikeouts. Freshman Aidan Lane pitched the final two innings with three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters
