BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball squad looked to rally late but fell short in a 7-5 loss to Drew University to close out the Landmark Conference series between the schools Tuesday at Gillespie Field.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers opened scoring with a run in the top of the first inning
  • The Blue & Grey knotted the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Freshman right fielder Jared Ferguson doubled with two outs before the Greyhounds drew three straight walks. Senior first baseman Cole Cherkas earned the third walk with the bases loaded to push Ferguson home
  • The Greyhounds took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth frame as graduate student Paul Hamilton connected on a solo homer to left center field, his third home run of the season
  • Drew scored three times in the top of the fifth to move back in front, 4-2, and the Rangers added three more runs in the top of the sixth frame for a 7-2 advantage
  • Moravian pulled within two runs at 7-5 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Cherkas drew a one-out walk and scored on a two-run homer from senior shortstop Paul Croyle to left center field. The home run was Croyle's second of the spring. Senior left fielder David Olsakowski followed with a walk, his school record 30th base on balls this year, and he stole second and third base before racing home on an RBI single by Hamilton
