TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference announced its 2024 Spring Academic Honor Roll selections today including 160 student-athletes from Moravian University. The Honor Roll recognizes all winter and spring student-athletes who have reached sophomore standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher.
In a change to the Landmark Conference awards structure that began in 2020-21, the spring semester academic honor roll now includes all spring sports as well as men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, wrestling and men’s volleyball.
Moravian had student-athletes from 14 of its winter and spring teams that compete in the conference with the women’s track & field program leading the way with 58 honorees including 29 both indoors and outdoors. The men’s track & field team had 22 total honorees with 11 both indoors and outdoors while the men’s lacrosse squad had 19 selections and the baseball and softball teams each had 14 student-athletes selected. The women’s lacrosse program registered 11 honorees followed by the men’s basketball squad with six. The men’s tennis team had five student-athletes honored followed by the men’s golf, women’s basketball and women’s tennis programs with three apiece and women’s swimming with two student-athletes selected.
The women’s track & field team was third at both the Landmark Conference indoor and outdoor championships. Leading the Academic Honor Roll nominees are graduate student Jocelyn Itterly, seniors Vicky Donovan, Emma Garchinsky, Lexi Groff and Pia Mazella-DiBosco, juniors Bella DeMassa, Caillie Fish, Abby Giamoni, Rachael Goodman, Hannah Kolonoski, Catie Lovett, Abby McClaskey, Ally Meeks, Lily Mingora, Liz Miskovsky, Rylie Murphy, Amber Poniktera, Ashley Rodrigues, Lexi Rushatz and Mikayla Woodring and sophomores Heather Adams, Tori Champagne, Ali Haefele, Caroline Melillo, Makenna Mersch, Meghan Myers, Sarah Rice, Tara Smurla, Grace Tirabassi and Kara Vashey. Everyone on the list competed in both the indoor and outdoor seasons except for Itterly, who did not compete outdoors, and Lovett, who competes in another sport during the winter.
The men’s track & field team finished as the runner-up at the 2024 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships and third indoors saw graduate student Christian Jancsarics, seniors Casey Frank, Josh Mangini, Derek Mason and Brendon Ward, juniors Jake Farrell, Geoffrey Kleinberg, Owen Nahf and Wyatt Poniktera and sophomore Bryan Kerchner make the list in both seasons while graduate student Tim King was honored for the outdoor season and junior Kyle Weiss for the indoor campaign.
The men’s lacrosse program posted a 9-9 mark this spring and played in the first round of the Landmark Conference Tournament. Graduate student Connor James, seniors Matt Baer, Connor Estes, Avery Napolitano, Jack Swistak and Thomas Ulmer, juniors Dan Alicea, Austin Hittle, Dan Kelly, Gannon Mesko, Aden Moskovitz, Steven Salica, Jake Smit and Kyle Weiss and sophomores Adian Brown, Ryan Kokoszka, Nick Mancini, James Panico and Mike Sickler made the Academic Honor Roll.
Moravian’s baseball program finished the year at 15-23 in 2024. Graduate students Paul Hamilton, Justin Otero, Chris Pow, Jack Tone and Ethan Weber, seniors David Ciaccio, Matt Madigan, David Olsakowski and Connor Wengryn, junior Chris Medei and sophomores Ross Huffman, Matt Snyder, William Sottilare and Sean Superka all received Academic Honor Roll accolades.
The softball squad won the 2024 Landmark Conference Tournament and hosted an NCAA Division III Regional to complete the season with a 31-10 record. Seniors Madi Cunningham, Emily Silberman and Mya Zettlemoyer, juniors Jessica Forder, Lindsey Gawrys, Jenna Lenko and Sage Snyder and sophomores Madison Berning, Sarah DeStefano, Kayla Krausse, Natalie Otto, Kendall Szor, Hailey Tanner and Emma Wariwanchik all earned spots on the Academic Honor Roll.
The women’s lacrosse squad finished the season with an 8-10 record and the program’s sixth straight Landmark Conference Tournament appearance. Seniors Alise Downey, Salome Carr and Keara Reilly, juniors Alex Cherenson, Maddie Dippel, Jackie Salvatore and Isabella Ziccardi and sophomores Kayla Graef, Gianna Lotito, Grace Nelson and Victoria Salica were named to the Academic Honor Roll.
The men’s basketball squad, which was 9-16 this year, had seniors Alex Dietz and Mark Howell, juniors Michael Leonardo and Nate Sanitago and sophomores Liam Cummiskey and Uma Kalu selected to the Academic Honor Roll.
The men’s tennis team squad, which set a school record with a 17-5 record and reached the Landmark Conference Semifinals, saw senior Steve Schneider, juniors Zachary Lebby and Wyatt Marshall and sophomores Shayaan Farhad and Matt Labosky earn Academic Honor Roll accolades.
The women’s basketball team was 8-18 this past winter and reached the Landmark Conference First Round. Senior Reganne Flannery and juniors Mikayla Anderson and Brielle Guarente garnered spots on the Academic Honor Roll.
The women’s tennis team posted a 15-5 record this year while finishing as the runner-up in the Landmark Conference Tournament. Seniors Gabby Martin and Megan O’Brien and sophomore Izzy Szmodis each received a nod on the Academic Honor Roll.
The men’s golf squad finished fifth at the 2024 Landmark Conference Championships and had juniors Sam Bingaman and Tommy Zanghi and sophomore Robbie McNelly named to the Academic Honor Roll.
The women’s swimming team had junior Lydia Devlin and Lovett from the outdoor track & field team honored on the Academic Honor Roll in the program’s third season.
