BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is going to take a look back at its 2023-24 athletic campaign over the next two months with a pair of top 10 lists voted on by the athletic administration.
The first list starting today will be the Top 10 Exciting Games from the past year with a look at our No. 10 highlight – the women's tennis squad defeating The University of Scranton, 5-1, in a Landmark Conference Semifinal at Hoffman Courts.
The Greyhounds initially trailed 1-0 in the match before freshmen Sydney Shifman and Leah Zolotareva earned a win at second doubles. The tandem of seniors Gabby Martin and Emily Masters gave the Hounds the lead for good when they won at third doubles. Senior Mara Stapleton quickly made it 3-1 with a straight sets victory at fourth singles while Martin won a pair of 7-5 sets to earn a point at fifth singles. Just moments later, sophomore Izzy Szmodis captured the winning point with a straight sets victory at second singles that included a first-set tiebreaker. Zolotareva and Masters were both in their third sets when the match ended while Shifman was in her second set.
The victory put Moravian into the Landmark Conference Championship match for the fifth consecutive tournament dating back to 2019.
