Top 10 Stories of 2022-23 – Best of the Rest – What Missed the Top 10

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing its look back at its 2022-23 athletic campaign. Before we finish the countdown – the Top 10 Stories of the Year selected by the athletic administration – we'll take a look at the five stories that just missed our ranking: two Landmark Conference Coaching Staffs of the Year, a National Assistant Coach of the Year, three Landmark Conference Players of the Year, Women's Swimming's first win as a program and Women's Tennis reaching the Landmark Conference Championship match.

The Greyhounds had a pair of sports that saw the coaches earn Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann and assistants Jon D'Ottavio and Sarah Hughes '17 repeated as the Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year last November after leading the Hounds to their second straight Landmark Conference title. This past May, Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Caroline Pape along with her assistants Kiki Brasher and Samantha Cherenson '22 were named the Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Greyhounds to their first-ever home Landmark Conference Semifinal match and the second home playoff contest in program history. In March, Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Amy Endler '93 was honored as the 2023 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division III Assistant Coach of the Year. Endler, who played four seasons for the Greyhounds in the early 1990s, is a member of Moravian's Hall of Fame. She has been part of Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk's staff for 22 years and has helped the Hounds post a 371-191 record while coaching including a 75-70 win over nationally-ranked Elizabethtown College in February while filling in for Spirk as head coach for the contest. Moravian had three student-athletes selected as Landmark Conference Players of the Year in 2022-23. Fifth-year senior Shane Houghton earned the honor after winning the 2022 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Title in November. Senior Crystal Robinson was selected as the 2023 Landmark Conference Women's Outdoor Track Performer of the Year in May after winning four gold medals in the meet hosted by the Greyhounds. Graduate student Brittany Bill was named the 2023 Landmark Conference Women's Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Year in her first year with the Hounds. The Greyhounds' women's swimming program was in just its second varsity season in 2022-23. The Blue & Grey scored the squad's first-ever victory on the opening day of the season as the team defeated Albright College, 73-65, in a double-dual meet at Cedar Crest College. Moravian's women's tennis team earned the second seed in the 2023 Landmark Conference Tournament. The Hounds defeated Goucher College, 5-0, in the Landmark Conference Semifinals to advance to the championship match at Drew University on April 29. While the Greyhounds fell to the Rangers, 5-1, the squad finished the season with an 18-4 record and saw the doubles team of seniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone become the first doubles squad to 20 wins in a single season as they finished 20-2 on the year.
