BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing its look back at its 2022-23 athletic campaign. The ninth entry in our second countdown of the summer – the Top 10 Stories of the Year selected by the athletic administration – is our No. 2 highlight – the women's 4x100-meter relay squad racing in the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships.
The quartet of seniors Rachel Byrne, Helen Davis and Crystal Robinson and sophomore Abby Giamoni raced in the first heat of the preliminaries at Saint John Fisher University on Thursday, May 25. The squad finished fifth in the heat and 12th overall in a time of 47.47 seconds, their third fastest time of the season. The group did finish three spots higher that their qualifying spot of 15th.
The trip to the NCAA meet was the second for Robinson, who ran in the 200-meter dash preliminaries back in 2021, while it was the first NCAA experience for Byrne, Davis and Giamoni.
The team had qualified for the NCAA Championships on Wednesday, May 17 when the quartet tied the school and Landmark Conference records with a time of 46.95 seconds to finish as the runner-up in the 2023 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships hosted by Susquehanna University. The squad also won the 2023 Landmark Conference Championship with a first place time of 47.36 seconds on Sunday, May 7 at Timothy Breidegam Track.
