Field Hockey Falls to Albright on Late Goal in 1-0 Loss

READING, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team dominated all facets of its first night game of the 2013 season except the final score as the Greyhounds fell at Albright College, 1-0, in non-conference action Tuesday.

Moravian had a 20-2 advantage in shots including putting 12 shots on goal and a 15-2 edge penalty corners but the Greyhounds were unable to get a shot past Lions' keeper Marguerite DeLucas, who had 12 saves.

The Greyhounds had three penalty corners and a pair of shots by senior forward Keriann Badessa in the first ten minutes of the contest. Later in the first half, Moravian put three shots on goal in the 29th minute with a pair of saves by DeLucas and a defensive save after Albright had its only shot of the first half. The Greyhounds received three penalty corners in the final five minutes before the intermission but junior midfielder Catherine Duffin had a pair of shots blocked by the Albright defense.

Ten minutes into the second half, Moravian again had a series of penalty corners with four more shots on goal by Badessa, who recorded 12 shots in the match, and one by Duffin wide of the net. The Lions would break the scoreless tie in the 62nd minute when Amanda Smith tipped in a long shot by Chelsea Klein for the only score of the night.

In an attempt to tie the match in the final seven minutes, Badessa put three shots on goal while Duffin, who recorded five shots in the contest, had the final shot of the game on the net with three minutes to play.

Senior goalie Andrea Eck had one save in the match for the Greyhounds, who fell to 3-3 on the season after dropping their third one-goal outing of the season. Moravian has had five of its six matches this year decided by one goal.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, September 21 in a non-conference match at Marywood University beginning at 3:00 p.m.
