Field Hockey Falls to FDU-Florham in Overtime

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College field hockey team fell to FDU-Florham, 1-0 in overtime, Wednesday evening in the Greyhounds' final non-conference match of the 2013 season.

Moravian controlled play early in the match with seven penalty corners and a pair of shots on goal by senior forward Keriann Badessa in the first 13 minutes of action. Over the next 12 minutes, the Devils put three shots on goal with Greyhounds' senior goalie Andrea Eck stopping each one. Badessa would put another shot on goal for Moravian before the end of the first half.

FDU-Florham nearly took the lead 1:27 into the second half with a shot that hit off of the post. The Greyhounds moved to the other end of the field, and senior midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann getting a pair of shots on goal and Badessa firing another shot on Devils' keeper Tess Loughran but Moravian was unable to get on the scoreboard.

Neither squad put a shot on the cage in the final 24 minutes of regulation although Moravian did have a pair of shots by Badessa go just wide of the goal.

The Greyhounds were able to earn a penalty corner just 49 seconds into the extra session, their 12th penalty corner of the match but Moravian did not get a shot off. FDU would flip the field and scored 2:32 into overtime when Lanie Andrews tapped in a pass by Niki Ikeda on a penalty corner that Andrews had started.

The Greyhounds finished the match with an 8-7 edge in shots and a 12-9 advantage in penalty corners. Eck finished with three saves in the contest.

Moravian, which dropped its fourth one-goal loss of the season and fell to 2-2 in overtime this season, is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 19 in a Landmark Conference match at Juniata College starting at 1:00 p.m.
