Four Hounds Named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction

GLEN ALLEN, Va. --- Junior Taylor Holly, Rebecca Hamel and freshmen Kyla Rodrigues and Erin Tiwold of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Scholars of Distinction announced Thursday.

The quartet are part of the 131 NCAA Division III student-athletes earning the award that is given to student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year. A total of eight Landmark Conference student-athletes earned the Scholars of Distinction honors. The NFHCA added the Scholars of Distinction to its postseason awards in 2012-13.

"Being recognized as a scholar of distinction is a tremendous honor," stated Head Coach Amy Endler. "The four recipients from this year's team have shown that it is possible to have tremendous success in difficult majors, Taylor in nursing, Rebecca in physics, Erin in biochemistry, Kyla in accounting and still have the time and energy to be an integral part of a team. We are very proud of their accomplishments."

Moravian posted an overall record of 9-8 this past fall. Holly scored three goals while starting all 17 matches this season as a forward. Hamel netted a goal and an assist while starting all 17 contests in the midfield while Rodrigues also added a goal and an assist from her forward position in four matches. Tiwold saw action in seven matches as a forward in her debut season.
