Greyhounds Fall to No. 16 Drew

MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 16 Drew University Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.

Drew had the first shot on goal just 1:01 into the match with Greyhounds' junior midfielder Emily Marley making a defensive save. The Rangers put two more shots on goal in the 12th minute with senior goalie Andrea Eck stopping one and senior defender Erin Gilbert making the first of three defensive saves in the match that moved her into a tie for second in school history with 10 career defensive saves.

The Rangers would get on the scoreboard in the 14th minute. The Greyhounds drew a pair of penalty corners shortly after the goal but were unable to score. Gilbert added another defensive save in the 27th minute, and Eck added two more saves in the first half before Drew scored on a penalty stroke as time expired in the first half.

Drew had the early control of the ball in the second half before the Greyhounds drew a penalty corner in the 54th minute. Junior midfielder Catherine Duffin and sophomore forward Kelly O'Donnell put shots on goal but Moravian was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Rangers found the back of the cage in the 64th and 67th minutes to finish off the scoring while Gilbert picked up her third defensive save in the 67th minute of action.

Eck finished the match with eight saves for the Greyhounds.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, October 16 in a non-conference match at FDU-Florham starting at 7:00 p.m.
