10 Greyhounds Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad

GLEN ALLEN, Va. --- Ten members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2013 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced by the NFHCA.

"Achieving the NFHCA Academic Team award for the 11th straight year is a testament to our players to the amount of time and effort they put into their work in and out of the classroom," stated Head Coach Amy Endler. "They take pride in succeeding at a high level in their chosen majors and set the standard for future teams to follow."

Moravian was also one of 121 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by all six of their Landmark Conference rivals - The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, Juniata College, The University of Scranton and Susquehanna University.

Senior Andrea Eck, juniors Taylor Holly , Emily Marley and Bryn Tafuri, sophomores Rebecca Eisenstein, Tiffany Gumina and Rebecca Hamel and freshmen Christina Duddy, Kyla Rodrigues and Erin Tiwold represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 1,360 NCAA Division III players from 139 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2013-14 academic year.

The group helped the Greyhounds post a 9-8 record this past fall. Eck was honored on the NFHCA National Academic Squad for the fourth straight year, and she posted an 8-8 record in goal with a 1.85 goals-against average, 77 saves and one shutout this past fall. Holly scored three goals while Hamel and Rodrigues each added a goal and an assist and Gumina had one assist. Marley moved to defense this past season and recorded four defensive saves while Eisenstein had a pair of defensive saves and Tafuri made one defensive stop.
