Duffin & Badessa Selected for Landmark All-Conference Honors

TOWSON, Md. – Junior midfielder Catherine Duffin was selected as the first ever Landmark All-Conference First Team honoree in Moravian College field hockey history and senior forward Kerriann Badessa was named to the All-Conference Second Team in the Landmark Conference 2013 awards released Tuesday morning.

Duffin led the Greyhounds (9-8) with 20 points on team-high totals of eight goals and four assists this season, including two game-winning goals. Duffin's offensive skills were vital to Moravian's success this season. In the Greyhounds' nine wins this year, the junior scored seven goals. In contrast, Duffin netted one goal in the squad's eight losses.

"I am thrilled that Catherine has been selected as our first ever Landmark All-Conference First Team member," head coach Amy Endler said. "Her stick work is among the best I have ever seen from a player. Catherine's ability to get through defenders and get off hard, accurate shots on goal is incredible. She led the team in points for the second straight year, and I am looking forward to see what she can do in her senior year."

Duffin, a three-year starter for the Hounds, was selected to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.

Duffin boasted one five-point game this season at Neumann University on Oct. 2. Her goal in the 25th minute gave the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead, and her assist in the 61st minute knotted the game at 4-4 and forced overtime. The junior scored her second goal of the match in overtime to give Moravian the walk-off 5-4 victory.

In the season-finale at Goucher College, Duffin helped clinch a winning season by notching another two-goal game. Her tally in the 26th minute tied the game at one apiece, and another goal in the 47th completed a second-half comeback from a two-goal deficit. The Greyhounds scored the game-winner with less than four minutes remaining to get the win.

Badessa was second on the team in points with 18, and was tied for the lead in goals for the second straight season with eight. The senior added two assists and notched a team-high four game-winning goals this season.

The senior forward got the ball rolling during a five-game winning streak this season, the longest winning run since an 8-0 start to the 1992 season. Badessa scored game-winning goals against Marywood University, Roanoke (Va.) College and Muhlenberg College in the first three games of that streak.

"Kerri moved to the forward position this year and really flourished in her role as a goal scorer," Endler said. "She has excellent ball control and can maneuver around and through defenders with great skill. It is a testament to her talent to be selected to the Second Team despite missing two conference games. I wish we had Kerri for one more season."

Badessa had a six-point performance against Roanoke (two goals, two assists) and added the game-winner in the season-finale at Goucher. Her goal in the 67th minute capped a three-goal comeback to help the Greyhounds win 4-3 and clinch a winning season against the Gophers.
