Male Throwers Set PRs in Carol & John Covert Classic at Lehigh University

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team competed in the Carol & John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University in the final meet before the 2019 landmark Conference Championships.

The Greyhounds started the day with three top five finishes in the 5,000-meter run with junior Gavin Kemery taking third in 16:09.82, freshman Shane Houghton placing fourth in 16:09.88 and junior Greg Jaindl finishing fifth in 16:09.94. Junior Justin Beasley-Turner took sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:07.36 while sophomore Billy Milburn was eighth in the 3,00-meter steeplechase in 11:26.93.

Sophomore Peter Gingrich had a third place showing in the 800-meter run in 1:58.52 while junior Evan Lutz placed seventh in the 200-meter dash in 23.78 seconds. Junior Nicholas Cephas finished ninth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.40 seconds while sophomore Sean McFarland was tenth in the 100-meter dash in 11.53 seconds.

Junior Ryan Harper placed sixth in the hammer throw with a PR toss of 48.79 meters (160-1) while senior Hunter Gibson took tenth in the event with a toss of 42.89 meters (140-8). Harper also finished seventh in the shot put with another PR toss of 14.15 meters (46-5.25) while sophomore Derek Scott was tenth at a PR distance of 12.47 meters (40-11). Senior Jon Anthony was seventh in the discus with a PR toss of 44.03 meters (144-5).

Freshman Max Schuman took third in the pole vault at a height of 3.95 meters (12-11.5) while senior Da'Juon Hibbert was ninth in the long jump at 5.94 meters (19-6), tying in collegiate PR.

The Greyhounds look to defend their Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships at the 2019 meet being hosted by Goucher College in Towson, Maryland on May 4-5.
