Moravian Drops Tight Match at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad dropped a tight, 4-3, decision to host NCAA Division II Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in non-conference action Saturday. 

How It Happened

  • The Golden Bears earned the lone point for doubles action as the squads played by Division II scoring rules. The Hounds did capture the second doubles point with senior Mara Stapleton and sophomore Izzy Smodis posting a 6-1 win but with Kutztown capturing the other two matches, the Golden Bears took a 1-0 lead
  • Kutztown won the top three singles matches to clinch the victory while Moravian won the last three singles contests. Freshman Sydney Shifman recorded a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 win at fourth singles while Stapleton registered a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at fifth singles. Senior Gabby Martin finished the day with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at sixth singles.
