Moravian Women Clinch Second Seed & First Round Bye with Victory over Catholic

COLLEGE PARK, Md. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad earned the second seed in the 2024 Landmark Conference Tournament and a first round bye with a 5-2 victory over host The Catholic University of America Saturday in a match delayed over three hours and moved indoors to the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds won two of three doubles matches for a 2-1 lead. Freshmen Sydney Shifman and Leah Zolotareva opened the contest with an 8-0 victory at second doubles while seniors Emily Masters and Gabby Martin earned an 8-5 triumph at third doubles to make it 2-0
  • Zolotareva was the first off the courts in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to give Moravian a 3-1 lead while Masters made it 4-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win at sixth singles. Shifman earned the final point with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at third singles
  • With limited court time and the men's contest to begin after the women's, the match was ended when the Greyhounds reached the five team points to earn the victory
