Greyhounds Clinch Postseason Berth with Victory over Scranton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad clinched its seventh consecutive postseason berth with a 6-3 victory over visiting The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action at Hoffman Courts Sunday. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds swept the doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Freshmen Ali Bender and Leah Zolotareva posted an 8-5 victory at first doubles while senior Mara Stapleton and sophomore Izzy Szmodis earned an 8-4 triumph at second doubles. Senior Emily Masters and freshman Sydney Shifman completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at third doubles
  • Scranton won the first two singles contests to finish to cut the lead to 3-2 before Szmodis recorded a 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 victory at second singles. Shifman clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at fourth singles while Stapleton recorded the final point for the Blue & Grey with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at fifth singles
  • The Landmark Conference has expanded the postseason tournament to six teams this season with the addition of two schools, and Moravian can finish no lower than sixth. The tournament begins on Tuesday, April 30 with the first round
