BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore Tyler Smith has qualified to compete in the 2016 BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club on June 13-15 and 18.

Smith tied for sixth of 145 players with a round of 76 on Monday at the par 72 Radley Run Country Club in the first of four qualifying tournaments for the Philadelphia Amateur Championship, which is being played for the 116th time this summer. Smith played as a representative of the Philadelphia Publinks GA.

Smith completed his sophomore season at Moravian with a 77.93 average over 14 rounds, and he had one win at Susquehanna University Spring Invitational on April 1 to go along with five top five and seven top 10 finishes throughout the year. Smith earned Empire 8 All-Conference Second Team honors for the second consecutive spring.

The BMW Philadelphia Amateur Championship is the Golf Association of Philadelphia's premier event. Participants must first advance through a one-day, 36-hole stroke play qualifier to gain one of 32 available match play positions. Those rounds will be played at Merion as well as the Philadelphia Country Club on June 13. Those who qualify for match play must advance through four matches in two days to reach the Amateur Final, which is typically held on the Saturday of Father's Day weekend. The winner receives the J. Wood Platt Trophy; its namesake holds a record-seven Amateur Championship titles.
