Hounds Capture John Makuvek Cup over Muhlenberg & DeSales

MACUNGIE, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team captured the John Makuvek Cup, named for the Greyhounds long-time coach, for the first time in the three-year history of the outing as the Hounds fired a 314 on Thursday at Brookside Country Club to defeat rival Muhlenberg College and DeSales University.

Muhlenberg had a team score of 317 as Moravian's three-stroke win gave the Hounds their first point of the year in the annual Matte Award standings between the schools with the Mules leading 3-1. Moravian defeated DeSales 314-330 on Thursday.

Senior Evan Dickinson led the Hounds individually with a six-over par round of 77 on the par 71 Brookside course to place second of the 17 golfers. Dickinson carded 13 pars during his round. Senior Jim Maru was tied for third with a round of 78 that included a pair of birdies and nine pars on Thursday while sophomore Tyler Smith was sixth with a 79 on the day with two birdies and eight pars. Junior Anthony Beltrami was one stroke back in seventh with a round of 80 that saw him make one birdie and nine pars while junior Dan Leppert carded an 83 with 10 pars in the round.

The Greyhounds will close out the fall portion of their 2015-16 schedule on Monday, October 19 at the Franklin & Marshall College Fall Invitational that will be played at the Bent Creek Country Club.
