Smith Captures Medalist Honors as Greyhounds Win Susquehanna Invitational

HUMMELS WHARF, Pa. --- Moravian College sophomore Tyler Smith fired a three-over par round of 73 to earn medalist honors and lead the Greyhounds to a first place team finish at the Susquehanna University Spring Invitational played at the Selinsgrove Valley Country Club Friday.

The Hounds had a team score of 315 to lead the host Crusaders by 12 strokes in the seven team field, and Moravian placed all five of its golfers in the top 11 of the 33-player field.

"Tyler played really well. It was nice to see him come through with a solid round," commented Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "I am really proud of how the guys keep fighting through the round. Tyler is our third medalist in three events this spring which says a lot about the depth and balance of this team."

Smith led senior Jim Maru by a stroke as Maru was second in the tournament with a 74. Freshman Kody Long tied for fifth with an 83 while junior Dan Leppert was tied for eighth with a round of 85. Senior Evan Dickinson finished in a tie for 11th with an 87.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 5 when the squad hosts the Moravian Spring Invitational at the Woodstone Country Club in Danielsville with tee-off set for 1:00 p.m.
