Smith & Beltrami Named to Empire 8 Fall President's List as Golfers Earn All-Academic Team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Moravian College golfers sophomore Tyler Smith and junior Anthony Beltrami have been selected to the Empire 8 Athletic Conference 2015 Fall President's List as the Empire 8 honored over 800 student-athletes for their athletics contributions and excellence in the classroom, and Moravian was also recognized as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team.

"I am very proud of all of our guys for such a strong academic semester," stated Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "They definitely are student-athletes and they all take that role very seriously which showed in our performance this fall. I would like to congratulate both Tyler and Anthony for a very strong semester leading the team to a great achievement."

Smith competed in five of Moravian's six rounds during the fall portion of the season. Smith is currently in tied for 15th place after the first two rounds of the four-round Empire 8 championship. Over his five rounds this season, Smith is averaging 77 strokes per round with a season low of 74 at the Muhlenberg College Invitational.

Beltrami competed in all six of the Hounds' rounds this past fall in his first year at Moravian. He is currently tied for 11th through the first two rounds of the Empire 8 Championship. Beltrami is currently averaging a 79.67 strokes per round while shooting a season low of 75 at the Moravian College Fall invitational.

In the classroom, Smith is majoring in business management with a minor in finance at Moravian. Beltrami is a business management major as well. Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher during the semester while participating in a conference-sponsored sport.

In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8."

The Empire 8 recognized a record total of 807 student-athletes from its sponsored sports with the President's List distinction. The previous high was of 796 set last spring.

Additionally, 109 teams were acknowledged as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester.

The nine full-time conference members sponsored a total of 4,433 student-athletes who combined for a Empire 8 wide fall semester grade point average of 3.186, also a new high for the conference.
