Hounds Finish 7th at Messiah Falcon Classic to Conclude 2015-16 Season

HARRISBURG, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team placed seventh of 15 teams at the Messiah College Falcon Classic Tuesday afternoon as the Greyhounds concluded their 2015-16 season.

The Hounds posted a team score of 326 while Rutgers-Camden took the team title with a 310 in the tournament played at the Blue Ridge Country Club.

Junior Dan Leppert paced Moravian with a round of 78 on the par 72 course as he tied for 10th of the 80 golfers in the tournament. Leppert's round included two birdies and eight pars. Sophomore Tyler Smith also had two birdies to go with six pars in his round of 81 that tied him for 24th. Senior Evan Dickinson was tied for 31st as he carded an 82 in his final collegiate round which included two birdies and seven pars. Junior Anthony Beltrami and senior Jim Maru were both tied for 44th with rounds of 85 with Beltrami carding eight pars and Maru having one birdie and five pars in the final 18 holes of his career.

Maru averaged 77.40 strokes per round this season, the eighth best season in school history, and he finished his career with a 79.51 average, sixth in the Moravian record books, over 61 rounds. Maru played in 46 career events with three wins, 10 top 5 finishes and 22 top 10 finishes, and he had a career low round of 71 during the 2014-15 season. Dickinson averaged 81.47 strokes this year to finish his career at 80.77, tied for 13th in the record books. Dickinson played 63 rounds in his career, playing in all 48 possible events over the last four years with eight top 5 finishes and 15 top 10 showings. Dickinson had a career-low round of 70 this season at the Messiah Fall Falcon Classic.

Sophomore Kevin Kunkle finished the year averaging 77.44 strokes per round, seventh in school history, while Smith averaged 77.93 strokes, tied for 11th in school history. As a team, Moravian won five of 12 events this season, and the Greyhounds had 10 top five finishes and were in the top 10 of every event. Maru, Kunkle, Smith and Leppert each won medalist honors this spring.
