Maru Captures Medalist Honors as Greyhounds Win LVC Invitational

LEBANON, Pa. --- Senior Jim Maru fired a two-over par round of 74 to earn medalist honors and lead the Moravian College golf team to a first place team finish at the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen Invitational Monday afternoon at the Lebanon Country Club.

The Greyhounds had a team score of 324, finishing three strokes ahead of Neumann University in the 20-team tournament. Moravian also had all five of its individuals finish in the top 20 in the 101-golfer field.

"Jim played really solid golf today," commented Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "It was one of the toughest conditions I have ever seen on the course with sustained winds of 30 miles per hour and gusts over 40. You really needed to stay focused on each shot and Jim did a great job of that."

Maru edge Brett Fernandes from Alvernia University by two strokes on the day while sophomore Kevin Kunkle tied for 10th with an 82. Senior Evan Dickinson, junior Dan Leppert and sophomore Tyler Smith were all tied for 19th with rounds of 84.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, April 1 at the Susquehanna University Invitational to be played at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club.
