Maru Holds Individual Lead, Hounds 2nd as Team after 2 Rounds of Empire 8 Championship

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. --- Senior Jim Maru fired his second straight two-over par round of 74 and leads the 2015-16 Empire 8 Conference Championships through 36 holes by two strokes as the Moravian College golf team sits in second place after the two fall rounds at Timber Banks Country Club Sunday.

The Greyhounds, who led after the opening round, had a team score of 322 on Sunday for a two-day total of 628, and the Hounds trail defending conference champion and nationally-ranked St. John Fisher by 11 strokes. Stevens Institute of Technology is in third place at 638.

Maru's second-straight 74 gives him a 36-hole total of 148, two strokes ahead of St. John Fisher's Corey Haas in the field of 48 golfers. Junior Dan Leppert is tied for seventh at 160 after Sunday's round of 84 while junior Anthony Beltrami is tied for 11th on stroke back at 161 with an 80 in the second round. Sophomore Kevin Kunkle is in a tie for 13th at 163 with an 84 on Sunday while sophomore Tyler Smith is tied for 15th with a 36-hole total of 164 after an 87 in the second round. Senior Evan Dickinson fired his second straight 85 and is 26th in the field at 170.

The final two rounds of the 2015-16 Empire 8 Conference Championships will be played at the Hershey Country Club in April 2016.

Moravian will be back on the links on Monday, September 28 at the Messiah College Falcon Classic that will be played at the Carlisle Country Club.
