Women’s Soccer Succumbs to Second-Half Surge by E-Town

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Moravian College women's soccer team fought to a scoreless tie through one half of play at Elizabethtown College on Wednesday evening, but the Blue Jays poured on the offense in the second half and won 4-0.

The Greyhounds (3-4) got some early offense with shots from junior forward Kirsten Schall and junior defender Kaylan Bruzzone, but then Elizabethtown picked up the pace and put intense pressure on senior goalkeeper Genevieve Chaleff and the Moravian backline.

Chaleff stood her ground, picking up four saves in the scoreless first half as the Blue Jays bombarded the net with 14 shots before the break.

After knocking on the door for the majority of the first half, Elizabethtown (4-3) finally broke through with four unanswered goals in less than 10 minutes.

Amid the rapid-fire attack from the Blue Jays, the Greyhounds continued to battle toward a comeback attempt. Senior forward Caroline Clark ripped a shot one minute after Elizabethtown got its third goal, forcing the Blue Jay keeper to make a save.

Schall helped Moravian look for a second half answer with a shot that sailed just high over the Elizabethtown crossbar. Less than a minute later, the Blue Jays flew across the field and scored their fourth goal, which was deflected off a long shot.

Sophomore midfielder Catherine Lamplugh continued to search for retaliation with a well-placed shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the attempt was stuffed by the Elizabethtown keeper.

Greyhound sophomore goalkeeper Jacqueline Zalis earned some more valuable experience in net on Wednesday, playing the final 15 minutes of the game without letting up a goal. She lowered her 2013 goals against average to 0.54 with a save percentage of .857.

Moravian has shown the ability to rebound from a loss during the non-conference portion of the fall schedule. They will have to do that again to avoid dropping to two games under .500 when they travel to Delaware Valley College this Saturday at noon.
