KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Junior forward Kirsten Schall of the Moravian College women's soccer team has been selected as an All-East Region Scholar by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Division.

Schall matched her intensity on the field with an equal aptitude in the classroom, accumulating a 3.52 GPA while majoring in psychology at Moravian. The grade point average combined with an impressive stat sheet garnered an Honorable Mention on the annual NSCAA academic report.

"Kirsten is a model Division III student-athlete," said head coach Brienne Smith. "She is just as competitive in the classroom as she is out on the soccer field. She truly understands the value of handwork and puts her heart and soul into everything that she does. We are thrilled that she has been recognized by the NSCAA for her efforts. She certainly deserves it."

The junior striker was selected to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team after a historic season offensively for the Greyhounds. Her nine assists ranked first in the conference, despite Schall missing three matches with an injury, and will go down as the second highest single-season assist total in school history. Her 11 goals and 31 points both ranked in the top five in Landmark. Her 11 tallies are tied for ninth in a single season at Moravian, while her 31 points are tied for sixth all-time.

Schall is currently tied for fourth all-time in the school record books for career assists with 17. She's also tied for seventh all-time with 55 career points.

The Landmark Conference named Schall to its Academic Honor Roll this fall.

Schall was one of 16 Greyhounds to post a 3.0 GPA or higher last semester as the Moravian women had a combined 3.17 team GPA. The NSCAA announced last month that Moravian was among 593 college women's soccer teams recognized with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year.

The NSCAA selected 13 or 14 players each to the first through fourth teams for the East Region, while awarding Honorable Mention status to the remaining qualified players.

The Moravian women's soccer team finished the 2013 season with a 7-10-3 record while reaching the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Tournament.
