KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Moravian College women's soccer team has been presented with the silver award for team ethics and sportsmanship for the 2013 season by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Division.

Throughout NCAA Division II and III men's and women's programs, 254 teams received either the gold, silver or bronze version of the award, which recognizes  teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.

"We are extremely proud of this award," head coach Brienne Smith said. "As a team, we feel strongly that we need to compete with class every time we step on the field. This is a very respectful group. They are not afraid to go in hard and play the game with intensity, but they also understand the importance of keeping the game clean and being respectful of their opponents and the officials."

A total of 157 teams claimed the silver award, which is given to teams that accumulate no red cards and a maximum of five yellow cards, while the bronze went to 72 teams, which is presented to teams that receive no reds and a maximum of 10 yellows.

The Greyhounds only received two yellow cards this fall.

Twenty-five intercollegiate teams received the NSCAA's gold award for completing the entire 2013 season without receiving either a yellow or red card.

Of the 254 awards given out by the NSCAA, 241 were presented to women's teams.

The Greyhounds finished the season with a 7-10-3 record while reaching the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Tournament.
