Volleyball Drops Straight Sets to York in Championship Round

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College women's volleyball team fell to York College of Pennsylvania in straight sets on Saturday morning in the Championship Round of the 11th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational.

The Greyhounds (2-1) struggled to get a rhythm going early as they dropped their first match of the young season, 25-23, 25-23, 25-9. York improved to 3-0 and only need to beat Swarthmore College this afternoon to claim the tournament title.

Playing its third match in less than 24 hours, Moravian fought through a seesaw first set that saw the score tied at 22 before the Spartans used a 3-1 run to take the opener. The second was a similar story, as both squads traded rallies until a 23-23 deadlock was broken by two straight points by York.

The Spartans came out strong in the third and final set, taking a 7-2 lead and never looking back.

Sophomore middle blocker Victoria Bobyak led a limited Moravian attack with seven kills. Junior outside hitter Taylor Jennings added five kills, while sophomore Lauren Hostetler finished with four.

Senior setter Kelly Brown had 19 assists and executed a solid serving run in the second set to tie the score at 23. Her seven digs also led the squad on Saturday morning.

Hope is not completely lost for the Hounds, who are not yet out of the running to win their third straight Greyhound Premiere. A convincing win against Swarthmore this afternoon at 2 p.m. combined with a York loss could give Moravian the hardware in a tiebreaker.
