Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match at Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team won the first set at Cabrini College Thursday evening but the Cavaliers captured the next three sets for a 3-1 victory in non-conference action.

In the opening set, the score was tied at 10-10 when the Greyhounds went on a 7-2 run to build a 17-12 lead. The Cavaliers closed to 17-14 before Moravian scored four straight points with sophomore libero Andrea Giardina serving. The Greyhounds needed five tries at set point before earning the 25-19 win in the set. In the second set, the Greyhounds got an early lead and had the set tied at 4-4 before Cabrini scored five straight points to take control and earn a 25-14 win in the set.

Moravian jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the third set before the Cavaliers scored three straight points. Cabrini led by as many as four points before the Greyhounds closed the game in the set to two points at 13-11. However, the Cavaliers ran off seven straight points and eventually take the set 25-12. Moravian kept the fourth set close with freshman middle blocker Taylor Kornmann tying the set at 10-10 with a kill. Cabrini would eventually move ahead and earn a 25-19 win in the set to capture the match.

Kornmann paced the Greyhounds with nine kills in the match to go with a service ace and a block while freshman right side hitter Lauren Piccinich contributed eight kills and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Hostetler and senior middle blocker Brittany O'Hara each had seven kills with Hostetler adding a team high 13 digs while O'Hara contributing four blocks and a pair of digs.

Senior setter Kelly Brown became the fourth player in school history with ten digs in the match to raise her career total to 1,508, and Brown had 30 assists and two blocks in the match. Giardina had eight digs and a pair of service aces for the Greyhounds while freshman middle blocker Jaclyn Smith added three kills .

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action with their final non-conference home match of the year on Friday, November 1 when nationally-ranked Eastern University comes to Johnston Hall for a 7:00 p.m. match. Moravian will be celebrating senior night before the start of the contest.
