Kornmann Named to Landmark All-Conference Second Team

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman middle hitter Taylor Kornmann of the Moravian College volleyball team put a bow on a wildly successful rookie campaign with a Landmark All-Conference Second Team award, released by the league office on Thursday morning.

Kornmann led the Greyhounds (12-22) in hitting with 352 kills and a .295 hitting percentage this season. The freshman also paced Moravian at the net defensively with 87 blocks, including 37 solo stops.

"Taylor simply enjoys volleyball and loves competing," head coach Shelley Bauder said of Kornmann, who recorded an incredible .505 hitting percentage over the team's final four matches. "Toward the end of the season, she more consistently showcased her skills, especially with her offense as she racked up kills and limited her errors."

Kornmann is only the second freshman to be named to an All-Landmark team for the Hounds since the league formed in 2007 and only the fourth Moravian rookie to win an All-Conference award since 2000.

The freshman middle already cemented herself in the Moravian record books this season. Kornmann's .615 hitting percentage in the 3-1 loss to The University of Scranton in the Landmark Conference Tournament first round was the fourth highest hitting percentage in a four-set match in school history. Her hitting marks of .556 and .464 against Swarthmore College and Neumann University, respectively, are the third and fourth best hitting percentage marks in a five-setter.

"It's so exciting that she was able to garner All-Conference honors as a freshman, especially considering how strong our conference is," Bauder said. "I'm looking forward to seeing how much she will improve her game next year and beyond to help reestablish Moravian volleyball as a formidable force in the region."

Kornmann quickly made the region aware of her skillset as she recorded 17 kills in a five-set match versus Swarthmore during the season-opening Greyhound Premiere in Johnston Hall. She topped that with a career-high 18 kills against Swarthmore later in the season at the Muhlenberg tri-match. Kornmann had double-figure kills in 20 matches this season.

The freshman had a career-high seven blocks against Neumann, with six recorded as solo stuffs. Kornmann also added five assists, five service aces and 29 digs during her rookie campaign.
