Kornmann’s Kills Garner Landmark Player of the Week Award

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman middle hitter Taylor Kornmann of the Moravian College volleyball team has been selected the Landmark Conference Player of the Week for her performance during the period ending Nov. 3.

Kornmann recorded 43 kills during a 2-1 week for the Greyhounds that saw the freshman lefty register a stellar .469 hitting percentage.

"Taylor's connection with [setter] Kelly Brown has really developed and has come a long way this season," head coach Shelley Bauder said. "It's thanks to three factors: We're passing much better and allowing Kelly to set our middle; Kelly has practiced hard in setting a lefty middle, which is not easy; and Taylor has been working so hard in improving her overall game."

The rookie registered a career-high 18 kills and only one error in the straight-set win over Swarthmore College on Saturday, and followed that up with 15 kills and a career-high .560 hitting percentage against rival Muhlenberg. Kornmann's kills were only one aspect to an excellent stat line last week for the Greyhounds. She showed her versatility against the Mules, serving up two aces and coming up with two digs in the 3-1 victory.

Kornmann added to her team-lead in blocks with 12 total stops last week, eight of which were solo blocks. She now has 81 blocks during her rookie campaign.

Against nationally-ranked Eastern University on Friday in Johnston Hall, Kornmann picked up 10 kills and only one error as the Greyhounds lost in straight sets.

Kornmann and the Greyhounds have concluded the 2013 regular season, but are preparing for the first round of the Landmark Conference tournament. The fifth-seeded Greyhounds travel to No. 4 The University of Scranton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against No. 1 Juniata College, which has won the tournament all six times since its inception in 2007.
