Moravian Falls Short in Gold Bracket Matches

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College Greyhounds dropped both games today in the Gold Bracket matchup between Carroll (Wisc.) University and Muhlenberg College. The Greyhounds lost the first match to Carroll (Wisc.) University 25-19, 25-21, and 25-20. Later in the afternoon Moravian lost another match to rivals Muhlenberg 18-25, 25-18, 25-11, and 25-17.

Leading the Hounds in the difficult match up with the Pioneers, was sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher scoring 14 kills, 12 digs and a service ace. Also putting in a quality effort for Moravian was freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger contributing six kills, two service aces and a dig. Leading the team with assists was senior setter Megan Szkolnicki tallying 25 assists, four digs, two kills and a service ace. Tied for team high in digs was freshman setter Rebecca Purcell and sophomore libero Jean Markovic, racking up 15 digs each.

Leading the Hounds versus the Mules was Tiger with nine kills, three assists, two block assists and two digs. Also pitching in for Moravian was Markovic recording 15 kills in this match as well. Szlolnicki lead the team with assists adding another 13 to her total on the day. Senior opposite side hitter Jaclyn Smith took home 6 kills.

Up next for Moravian is the Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College on Friday, September 11 and Saturday September 12. The Hounds will play at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday versus Muhlenberg College and Salisbury University. On Saturday the team will play at 10:00 a.m. versus Rowan University and later in the day at a time to be announced.
