Women's Volleyball Splits on Final Day of 2015 Landmark Conference Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the 2015 Landmark Conference regular season Saturday in a pair of matches at The Catholic University of America.

The Greyhounds won their opening match of the day, defeating Goucher College, 27-25, 25-12, 25-14. However, Moravian fell to host Catholic, 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 in the final match of the day in a contest that saw the winner clinch the final berth in the 2015 Landmark Conference Tournament. This fall will be the first time since the Landmark Conference began in 2007 that the Hounds have missed the conference tournament.

Junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann led Moravian with 12 kills in the match against Goucher as she moved past 900 kills in her career, and she added two blocks in the victory. Sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher had 10 kills, 17 digs and a pair of service aces for the Greyhounds against the Gophers while senior setter Megan Szkolnicki had 36 assists, 10 digs and a pair of kills.

Sophomore libero Jean Markovic led Moravian with 21 digs to go with two service aces while sophomore outside hitter Jordyn Jacques added eight kills. Freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger contributed six kills and five blocks while junior opposite hitter Jacyln Smith also had six kills to go with a pair of blocks. Freshman setter Rebecca Purcell added six digs.

Kormann also led the Blue and Grey in the match versus Catholic as she recorded 13 kills, four digs and a pair of blocks while Zacher added eight kills, six digs and three assists. Tiger also had eight kills in the second match of the day while Szkolnicki had 30 assists, six kills and five digs. Markovic contributed 20 digs to move within five of 900 for her career while Purcell added 15 digs. Smith had four kills in the nightcap while Jacques had dive digs and a pair of kills.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action in a non-conference match at FDU-Florham on Thursday, October 22 starting at 7:00 p.m.
