Hounds Open Action at Buttermaker Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team played in a pair of matches on the opening day of the Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College in Memorial Hall.

The Hounds opened the tournament against the host Mules, falling 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 as Muhlenberg picked up the first point in the 2015-16 Matte Award standings between the two schools. Junior outside hitter Jaclyn Smith led Moravian with six kills and a pair of blocks in the contest while freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger added five kills and three digs.

Junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann had four kills and four digs in the contest while sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher contributed three kills, three digs and a pair of blocks. Senior setter Megan Szkolnicki paced the Greyhounds with 18 assists to go with seven digs while sophomore libero Jean Markovic added a team-high eight digs.

Moravian played Salisbury University in the final match of the opening day as the Sea Gulls earned a 25-20, 26-24, 25-17 win. Kornmann contributed led the Hounds with nine kills while Zacher added seven kills and 13 digs. Tiger had six kills for Moravian while Smith made three solo blocks to go with three kills. Szkolnicki contributed another 21 assists with three digs while Markovic had a team high 19 digs. Freshman setter Rebecca Purcell added six digs.

The Greyhounds will return to action on the second day of the Buttermaker Tournament on Saturday, September 12 with a match versus Rowan University at 10:00 a.m. to finish out pool play before a final contest at 2:00 p.m. against an opponent still to be determined.
