Brockett Named Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Meg Brockett has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.

Brockett led the Greyhounds to a third place team finish at the season opening Lehigh University Invitational last Friday evening. Brockett took second place individually of the 57 competitors in the meet, and she had a time of 21:52.7 on the 6,000-meter course, averaging 5:51.9 per mile and posting the eighth fastest time in school history. She was the top non-NCAA Division I runner in the meet and one of only three non-NCAA Division I runners in the top 20.

"This race exceeded all of our expectations for Meg, " commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "Going in we were talking to Meg and Sarah about just getting in a solid race, running somewhere around 23:00 to get used to racing again. If they ran that we'd be happy because it'd be about a 30-second improvement from what they ran 12 months ago at this meet. Meg, and Sarah for that matter too, blew that time out of the water and had a huge day. Meg was patient at the mile mark and slowly worked her way through the field as she often does en route to becoming the fourth fastest 6K runner in our school's history. The three runners currently in front of her on our All Time list were cross country All Americans so we can't say enough about how excited we are with the start of her season and what may lie ahead."

The Hounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, September 16 when the squad hosts the Moravian College Invitational at Bicentennial Park in Northampton, Pennsylvania with the first race beginning at 5:30 p.m.
