Greyhounds Score 24 Runs in Win Versus St. Elizabeth at Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The Moravian College baseball team scored in eight of nine innings as the Greyhounds raced out to a 24-7 win over the College of St. Elizabeth at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Tuesday.

The Greyhounds, who scored in double digits for the third time this season, had 23 hits in the contest with senior center fielder Carmine Palummo going 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBIs and a triple. Junior right fielder Thomas Philipps went 3-for-3 as he tied the school record with three doubles to go along with four runs and four RBIs. Freshman third baseman Derek Holmes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs while senior left fielder Ian Csencsits went 2-for-3 with four runs and an RBI. Sophomore designated hitter AJ Brosious was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a home run while sophomore third baseman David Bertolotti, freshman shortstop Mason Fisher and freshman catcher Nick Montone were all 2-for-4.

Freshman Matt Ciarrochhi made his collegiate debut on the mound, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts in six innings for the victory. Freshman Kenny Kunzman also made his first appearance of the season with a run on two hits and a walk over the final three innings.

The Hounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-RBI double from Philipps, and RBI single by Bertolotti and an RBI single off of Montone's bat. The Eagles answered with a run in the bottom of the first frame to make it a 4-1 game.

The Blue and Grey scored five times in the top of the second to push the edge to 9-1. Moyer started the scoring with an RBI double, and Csencsits raced home on a wild pitch. Brosious added an RBI single before the final two runs of the inning scored on an error.

Moravian pushed the advantage to 14-1 with five more runs in the top half of the third inning. Palummo connected on an RBI triple while Csencsits drove him in with an RBI single. Brosious drilled a two-run homer, the second home run of his career, to finish off the scoring in the inning. St. Elizabeth pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the third to make it a 14-4 contest.

The Greyhounds would score twice in the fourth with an RBI double from Philipps and an RBI ground out by Brosious, and the squad made it 17-4 with a run in the top of the fifth frame on an RBI single from Palummo.

After the Eagles scored once in the bottom of the fifth, Moravian added two runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI triple by freshman designated hitter Noah Ingalls and an RBI ground out from Holmes. St. Elizabeth tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth before the teams made it through the seventh frame with neither team pushing a run across the plate.

The Blue and Grey scored twice in the top of the eighth with one run on a wild pitch and the other an error. The Greyhounds plated three more runs in the top of the ninth on a RBI single from Holmes, another wild pitch and an RBI ground out by freshman second baseman Chris Pow. St. Elizabeth finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the ninth.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 4 when the squad plays Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.
