Moravian Falls to York in Final Game at Ripken Experience

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The Moravian College baseball team finished its trip to the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a 10-5 loss to York College of Pennsylvania on Friday.

The Greyhounds, who return home with a 5-5 overall mark, had eight this in the game with senior left fielder Ian Csencsits and freshman third baseman Derek Holmes both going 2-for-4. Holmes added his first collegiate home run on the contest.

Sophomore Eddie Olsen made the start on the mound for the Blue and Grey and had a pair of strikeouts while taking the loss in three innings of work. Freshman Tyler Valentine pitched five innings for Moravian while sophomore Scott Poulson had one strikeout in the final inning.

The Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and York added four runs in the third and one more in the fourth for a 10-advantage.

The Hounds got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth when Holmes led off with a solo homer to right center, his first career home run. Moravian added three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Cscencsits led off the frame by being hit by a pitch, and he would cross the plate when freshman designated hitter Steve Hoyer drew a bases loaded walk. Later in the inning, Holmes reached on an error that allowed sophomore right fielder Robert Roman and junior first baseman Brett Moyer to score.

Moravian finished the scoring with a run in the ninth as freshman shortstop Mason Fisher led off the frame with a single and raced home on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 11 in a non-conference game versus Rutgers-Camden that will be played at Rowan University with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m.
