King, Thompson Named to All-Centennial First Team; McCarthy Honored as Rookie of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. --- Seniors defensive back Travis King (Wilmington, Del./Concord HS) and punter/place kicker Tyler Thompson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin HS) of the Moravian College football team have been named to the 2012 Centennial All-Conference Football First Team while freshman wide receiver/kick returner Jimmy McCarthy (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty HS) was named the inaugural Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year.

King, who played in 37 of 41 possible games in his career, led the 2012 Greyhound squad with 77 tackles to go with six and a half tackles for loss, a sack, two interceptions including a 45-yard return for a touchdown, six passes defended and four forced fumbles.  This fall, King also returned 13 kickoffs for 248 yards and 11 punts for 88 yards.  He finished his career with 187 tackles including 117 solo stops to go with 13 and a half tackles for loss, one sack, 21 passes defended with ten interceptions, which ranks tenth in school history, including two returned for touchdowns, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.  King set the Moravian career records for kickoff returns at 65 and yards at 1,317, and he also returned 37 punts for 323 yards.  King is a two-time member of the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll as well.

Thompson set a school record this fall for punting yardage at 2,559 yards on a total of 70 punts for an average of 36.6 yards per punt, and he had a long of 60 yards with his right foot and a long of 50 yards with his left foot.  Thompson also had 22 punts end up inside the 20-yard line, ten fair caught and four touchbacks.  He was three-for-seven on field goal attempts this fall with a career long of 40 yards at Juniata College, and he was ten-for-12 on extra-points this season and also picked up 18 yards and two first downs on two fake punt attempts.  Thompson punted 147 times in his career for 5,059 yards, fifth in total punts and sixth in yardage in school history, for an average of 34.4 yards per punt.  Thompson, who is also the co-captain of Moravian's golf team, was three-for-seven on field goal attempts and 12-for-14 on extra-points in his career, and he added five carries for 53 yards.

McCarthy caught a team high 39 passes for 505 yards and a touchdown in his debut season.  McCarthy also set the school record with 29 kickoff returns this season for 652 yards, the second highest single season total in school history.  McCarthy added ten rushing attempts for 40 yards with one touchdown, and he caught a two-point conversion attempt for a total of 14 points scored for the Greyhounds.
