BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad raced out to an 8-0 first quarter lead on the way to a 20-6 victory over visiting Juniata College in Landmark Conference action Saturday on John Makuvek Field as the Greyhounds celebrated Senior Day.
How It Happened
- The Hounds needed just 36 seconds to get onto the scoreboard with graduate student attack Trevor Dzama netting the opening goal. Dzama netted a goal 45 seconds later while senior defender Jason Levy went coast-to-coast for a goal at the 12:02 mark to make it 3-0. Sophomore attack Nick Coffaro scored twice before senior midfielder Steven Salica found the net. Junior attack Ryan Kokoszka added a goal and Coffaro scored again as Moravian led 8-0 after 15 minutes of action
- The Eagles tallied a man-up goal just 40 seconds into the second quarter. The Blue & Grey countered with 10 straight goals to head into the intermission leading 18-1. Coffaro led the goal run with three while senior midfielder Aaron Judge scored twice. Kokoszka, sophomore midfielder Hunter Klapmuts, junior midfielder Vincent Devito, senior midfielder Nick Sullivan and senior midfielder Dan Kelly each scored once in the period
- Juniata netted the only two goals of the third quarter to cut the score to 18-3 after 45 minutes of play
- The Eagles outscored Moravian 3-2 in the fourth quarter as sophomore attack Aiden LaCorte and senior attack Aidan Brown each tallied one goal
- Prior to the match, the Greyhounds honored their senior class of Dan Alicea, Sean Boyer, Aidan Brown, Austin Hittle, Aaron Judge, Dan Kelly, Thomas Lee, Jason Levy, Gannon Mesko, Aden Moskovitz, Steven Salica, Nick Sullivan and Kyle Weiss
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian saw 15 different players record a point led by Coffaro, who had six goals and an assist
- Dzama contributed two goals, six assists and two ground balls while Kokoszka and Judge both scored twice
- Kelly finished with a goal and two assists while Sullivan and Devito both had a goal and an assist with Sullivan scooping up two ground balls
- Levy recorded a goal, two ground balls and two caused turnovers while Klapmuts and Brown both had a goal and two ground balls
- LaCorte had a goal while sophomore midfielder Brady Quinn had two assists
- Senior short stick defensive midfielder Kyle Weiss registered an assist, four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while sophomore attack Kyle Gann had an assist and three ground balls
- Senior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko was 14-for-15 on face-offs with four ground balls while freshman face-off specialist Owen Deady went 9-for-13 with six ground balls
- Sophomore long stick midfielder Andrew Cassese had a team-high eight ground balls while senior defender Austin Hittle and senior short stick defensive midfielder Aden Moskovitz both had two ground balls and junior defender Mike Sickler posted four caused turnovers
- Sophomore goalie Liam Kelly made two saves and three ground balls in the opening 15 minutes while senior Thomas Lee had four saves in 30 minutes of action. Senior Sean Boyer made three saves in the final 15 minutes
- The Blue & Grey had a 57-27 advantage in shots, a 53-25 edge in ground balls, were 23-for-28 on face-offs and 19-for-20 on clearing attempts
