Moravian Scores in Final Seconds at Susquehanna for Landmark Conference Win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse squad scored the winning goal with just eight seconds remaining to defeat host Susquehanna University, 11-10, in Landmark Conference action Saturday. 

How It Happened

  • The Hounds netted the opening goal of the contest just 36 seconds into the contest as senior midfielder Aaron Judge hit the net. The River Hawks tied the contest four minutes later. The Blue & Grey countered with goals from senior midfielders Dan Kelly, Steven Salica and Vincent Devito in the final 5:29 of the period with Devito scoring with just 11 seconds left in the first quarter to give Moravian a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes of action
  • Susquehanna netted the only three goals in the second quarter to pull the match even at 4-4 at the intermission
  • Junior attack Ryan Kokoszka began the second half with a goal in the first minute of action, and Devito and senior short stick defensive midfielder Aden Moskovitz added a goal as the Hounds led 7-4 with 6:01 to go in the third quarter. The River Hawks responded with three straight goals to knot the score at 7-7 in the final minute of the period. Judge found the net again with four seconds left in the quarter to give Moravian an 8-7 edge after 45 minutes of play
  • Susquehanna started the fourth quarter with a pair of goals to move ahead for the first time at 9-8. The Greyhounds answered with goals from graduate student attack Trevor Dzama and senior midfielder Nick Sullivan to retake a 10-9 advantage with 8:13 to go. The River Hawks tied the match at 10-10 just 30 seconds later. The Blue & Grey would get the win when Kelly scored an unassisted marker with eight seconds remaining

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian saw 11 different players record a point with Judge, Devito and Kelly each scoring two goals
  • Dzama and Sullivan both had a goal and an assist while Kokoszka, Moskovitz and Salica all tallied one goal with Moskovitz adding three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers
  • Sophomore attack Nick Coffaro, senior short stick defensive midfielder Kyle Weiss and sophomore midfielder Brady Quinn each recorded an assist with Weiss scooping up two ground balls
  • Sophomore Liam Kelly registered 15 saves to go with two caused turnovers while senior Gannon Mesko was 12-for-24 on faceoffs with five ground balls and junior defender James Panico contributed two ground balls
  • The Hounds had a 42-41 edge in shots, a 13-for-25 advantage in faceoffs and went 15-for-18 on clearing attempts
