READING, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's lacrosse team opened the 2025 season with a 16-15 non-conference win at Albright College in the snow Saturday with the Hounds winning the match on a goal with just 14.5 seconds to play.
How It Happened
- The Lions scored the first two goals of the match before sophomore attack Nick Coffaro got the Hounds on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal just about four minutes into action. Albright added three more tallies for a 5-1 advantage midway through the first quarter. Coffaro scored again and senior midfielder Dan Kelly found the net to pull the Blue & Grey within 5-3; however, the Lions netted a goal to make it 6-3. Graduate student attack Trevor Dzama found the cage, and junior attack Ryan Kokoszka scored with just seven seconds left in the first period to pull Moravian within 6-5 after 15 minutes of action
- Kelly started the scoring in the second quarter as the Hounds knotted the score at 6-6 a minute into the period. The Lions scored to move back ahead before senior midfielder Aaron Judge netted his first goal of the season. Albright countered with two goals while Coffaro and Kokoszka scored to tie the contest again at 9-9 with 3:38 left in the first half. The Lions tallied twice more to take an 11-9 edge into the intermission
- Albright began the scoring in the second half before goals from sophomore midfielder Hunter Klapmuts, Judge and Kokoszka knotted the score again at 12-12 with 8:51 to play in the third quarter. Judge tallied a man-up goal at the 4:24 mark to give Moravian its first lead of the match. Kelly found the cage once more as the Greyhounds led 14-12 after 45 minutes of action
- The Lions netted the first three goals in the fourth quarter to retake a one-goal lead at 15-14 with 3:18 remaining. Judge tied the match again with 1:50 to go while Kelly put a pass from Dzama in the net for the winning goal with just 14.5 seconds left to play
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had six different players net a goal led by Judge, who had four goals and an assist to become the 11th player in program history to reach 100 career points
- Kelly finished with four goals and a pair of ground balls while Coffaro registered three goals and three assists
- Kokoszka recorded three goals and an assist while Dzama had a goal, four assists and two ground balls and Klapmuts finished with a goal and two assists
- Sophomore goalie Liam Kelly made 11 saves and scooped up four ground balls while playing the entire match in net
- Senior face-off specialist Gannon Mesko was 17-for-33 on face-offs with four ground balls while sophomore long stick midfielder Andrew Cassese had a match-high nine ground balls
- Senior defender Jason Levy added three ground balls while senior midfielder Kyle Weiss had a pair of ground balls and senior short stick defensive midfielder Aden Moskovitz had two caused turnovers
- The Hounds held a 61-40 advantage in shots, a 32-28 edge on ground balls and went 18-for-20 on clears while both teams were 17-for-34 on face-offs
