BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University honored its 2024-25 student-athletes with its Third Annual All-Athlete Awards Banquet in Johnston Hall Monday evening sponsored by the Greyhounds' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The Greyhounds handed out their annual Senior Awards as softball standout Lindsey Gawrys was selected as the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete while men's cross country and track & field runner Owen Nahf was honored with the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. The Blue & Grey Scholar Athlete awards were presented to softball player Sage Snyder, who has a 3.95 GPA and is majoring in health sciences/speech language pathology with a minor in psychology and men's soccer/men's indoor track & field/men's lacrosse student-athlete Kyle Weiss, who maintains a 3.67 GPA and is majoring in secondary education.
The H.T.D. Gillespie Award for outstanding service to Moravian's athletics program was presented to Dr. Robert Brill, an associate professor of psychology at Moravian as well as the Greyhounds' Faculty Athletic Representative since 2010.
With the Greyhounds' spring teams still in competition, the awards window was the Spring 2024 season, the Fall 2024 campaign and the Winter 2024-25 season. The evening also included a Blue Carpet entrance for all student-athletes.
SAAC presented individual awards for Male Newcomer of the Year to men's cross country/track & field student-athlete Cole Stanchina, Female Newcomer of the Year to women's soccer goalie Riley Spingler, Moravian Athletics Best Character to football student-athlete Jeremiah Espinosa, Moravian Athletics Spirit Award to men's soccer/men's indoor track & field/men's lacrosse student-athlete Kyle Weiss, Male Athlete of the Year to men's basketball standout Marquis Ratcliff and Female Athlete of the Year to softball catcher Marcie Silberman.
St. Luke's Sports Medicine presented the Comeback Athlete of the Year to softball student-athlete Sarah DeStefano.
SAAC also had team awards for the Highest GPA going to Women's Soccer, Most Decorated Team going to Men's Cross Country, Most Community Service Hours going to the Women's Basketball squad and Play of the Year going to the softball team for a walk-off win by Sage Snyder in a 2-1, eight-inning victory over Penn College in the 2024 NCAA Division III Bethlehem Regional at Blue & Grey Field.
The Iron Hounds Sports Performance Awards were given to the Baseball and Women's Soccer teams.
Moravian concluded the night with a roll call of the 129 graduating senior student-athletes, presenting them with their framed varsity letter and a student-athlete stole for commencement. The Greyhounds also inducted 77 members into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. Chi Alpha Sigma is the first national scholar-athlete society to honor collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition. Greyhounds who have a cumulative grade point average over a 3.5 (increased in 2024-25) after the fall of their junior year are inducted into the honor society and both seniors and juniors who maintain a cumulative 3.5 grade point average (increased in 2024-25) are honored yearly.
