BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's and women's tennis squads have selected seniors Wyatt Marshall and Ronny Pimentel Ferrer as men's captains and junior Izzy Szmodis and sophomore Leah Zolotareva as women's captains for the 2024-25 season.
Marshall earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Honorable Mention in singles last year. Marshall recorded an 8-9 singles mark last season, and he is 27-15 in singles action over his career while Pimentel Ferrer was 14-6 in singles play last year and has a 29-13 career slate. The tandem is 26-13 in doubles action over the last two years including an 11-9 mark in 2023-24. Marshall has a career doubles record of 33-19 while Pimentel Ferrer is 38-15 in doubles play in his career.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Ronny and Wyatt back as our co-captains," noted Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas. "They are among the most well-rounded student-athletes on our team and make significant contributions to the program both on and off the court."
Szmodis was selected to the 2024 Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles and Second Team in doubles while Zolotareva earned spots on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in singles and Honorable Mention squad in doubles. Last year, Szmodis had an 11-5 singles mark, and she is 24-12 in her career, and Szmodis was 15-5 in doubles last season, and she has a 31-11 in doubles over the past two years. Zolotareva had an 11-7 singles slate and a 13-4 in doubles during her debut season.
"I am looking forward to having Leah and Izzy lead this very young team on and off the court," Freitas said. I'm confident that they will continue to develop as leaders throughout the season and will play a crucial role in our ongoing success."
Both Moravian teams are set to begin the 2024-25 season on Saturday, September 21 when the squads host DeSales University in a pair of non-conference matches at Hoffman Courts beginning at 1:00 p.m.
