Jon Van Valkenburg ’77 - New Moravian Hall of Fame Inductee

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Jon Van Valkenburg '77, a standout on the football gridiron, is being inducted into the Moravian University Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 25 in Johnston Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Van Valkenburg, a 1977 Moravian graduate, was a standout on the Moravian football squad for four seasons. Van Valkenburg was selected to the All-MAC South First Team in 1975 and 1976 as a punter. He still tops the Moravian record book in career punts with 187 and career punting yardage with 6,973 yards. Van Valkenburg also set the Greyhounds' career passing mark during his playing days, throwing for 2,547 yards.

Van Valkenburg is being joined by former head softball coach John Byrne '82; All-Region softball pitcher Jenna Carmon Hegarty '12; men's track & field long jump national champion Joe Moore '04; all-conference men's soccer player Bruce Morris '89; record breaking kicker Brian Reckenbeil '09 and baseball and softball All-Conference player Paul Woodling '94 in the class of 2024 being inducted Moravian Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2010 softball squad, which made the NCAA Division III Championship Finals, will also be honored on Friday, October 25 in Johnston Hall as part of Moravian's Homecoming Weekend.
